Gene Salvatore
Executive Biography & 1997–2026 Engineering Trajectory
Gene Salvatore has been self-engineering complex hardware and software systems his entire adult life—starting in the pre-internet era as an MECP (Mobile Electronics Certified Professional) Certified Master Installer, the only internationally recognized credential validating a specialist’s ability to install, troubleshoot, and integrate complex vehicle electronic systems to strict industry standards. He owned and operated Audio Excitement (his retail mobile electronics store), and after closing the store, worked as a Master Installer for other regional car audio companies before and during his transition into the commercial internet in 1996–1997—where the Internet Archive Wayback Machine (archive.org) began independently capturing nearly three decades of his work.
Armed with a Packard Bell computer and Microsoft FrontPage—a Christmas gift from Maureen—Gene and Maureen registered RILiving.com in June 1997 and launched it in January 1998 for the Rhode Island State-Wide Multiple Listing Service (captured on archive.org on January 25, 1998, with page footer dated 01/19/98 under "Created In Association with Online Imaging"). When Phase 1 on an Adgrafix Sun SPARC / Solaris 2.6 Unix server running Access (.mdb) hit concurrency limits across 39 municipalities, Gene spun up a dedicated Windows NT 4.0 Server running IIS 4.0, Microsoft SQL Server (6.5/7.0), and Allaire ColdFusion—powering RILiving.com as well as custom database platforms for Lila Delman Real Estate (our largest brokerage account) and Phipps Realty.
In parallel, as documented in the 2001 Adgrafix / Allegiance Telecom Wayback Machine archives, Gene joined Adgrafix as an Account Executive in 1996, joined the Senior Account Executive Team in August 1999, served as a Systems Administrator, led the development of the Windows NT Program for Adgrafix, and rose to Vice President of Business Development on the Executive Team through its acquisition by Allegiance Telecom, Inc. He subsequently co-led vertical market hosting (Archieboy Holdings), building 8 racks of physical servers that merged with Boston Datacenters—running IBM and Dell server racks, Cisco and Juniper BGP cores, and VMware clusters across Boston and Connecticut.
In March 2007, Gene and Maureen completed a strategic carve-out of the multi-tenant hosting fleet to found GreenTree Hosting, LLC. Parallel to operating GreenTree at 99.982% uptime for 18+ years, Gene spent 12+ years ascending to Director of Support & Deployment Engineering for enterprise Real-Time Location Services (RTLS) across hospitals and healthcare systems. From their three homes in Sudbury, Massachusetts in the early 2000s (roof satellite at House 1, a dedicated commercial T1 line over POTS at House 2, and cable internet at House 3), to having commercial Gigabit fiber (1,000/1,000 Mbps) trenched 800 feet across the yard in Southbury, Connecticut and operating our multi-node Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / NVMe cloud cluster today, Gene leads GreenTree and Salvatore Systems across 17+ live platforms backed by deep DNS routing knowledge, early InterNIC/Network Solutions registrar heritage, and modern sovereign infrastructure.

After owning Audio Excitement (a retail mobile electronics store) and working as an MECP Certified Master Installer before and during the transition to the commercial web, the Wayback Machine started capturing the internet right as we were building RILiving.com (RI State MLS), Lila Delman Real Estate Online, and Phipps Realty Online under Online Imaging, and scaling Adgrafix Corporation (where Gene led the Windows NT Program and served as VP of Business Development alongside Maureen as Customer Care Manager).
