29+ Years of Building Web Applications, Data Centers & Enterprise Cloud
Married 31 years. Business partners for 35. Together since meeting at their retail mobile electronics store in 1989. Gene and Maureen Salvatore have built web applications and cloud infrastructure together across three decades—from founding Online Imaging in 1996, registering RILiving.com in June 1997, and launching it in January 1998 to commercial hosting leadership at Adgrafix, operating physical data center racks in Boston and Connecticut, and running GreenTree Hosting at 99.982% uptime since 2007.
Two Co-Founders Who Have Made Every Major Strategic Decision Side-by-Side
This isn’t a founder-and-employee dynamic. Gene architects systems; Maureen ensures they survive contact with reality. Together since meeting in 1989 at Audio Excitement (their retail mobile electronics store, where Gene worked as an MECP Certified Master Installer), they took a Christmas-gift Packard Bell computer and Microsoft FrontPage, founded Online Imaging in 1996, negotiated and registered RILiving.com on June 22, 1997 and launched Rhode Island’s statewide MLS database platform in January 1998, served in senior commercial hosting leadership at Adgrafix (1998–2001), built and merged physical server racks in Boston and Connecticut, and founded GreenTree Hosting, LLC in 2007.
Beyond enterprise infrastructure, Gene and Maureen have traveled together since 1989—accumulating 1,500+ hotel nights, NASCAR Championship weekends in Phoenix, IndyCar paddock access at Pocono, and 443+ documented field reviews at GeneTravels.com and PointsTracker.com.
Our 1997–2001 footprint is preserved verbatim in Verisign’s .com registry (RILiving.com registered 1997-06-22) and on archive.org—from Online Imaging footer credits and Maureen’s direct phone line on RILiving.com to Gene’s Adgrafix Windows NT Program and VP of Business Development executive bio alongside Maureen as Customer Care Manager.
In November 2000, Adgrafix sponsored Dr. Inferno Jr. (built by Jason Bardis / Infernolab) at the official BattleBots Robot Combat Championship held at the All American Sports Park in Las Vegas, Nevada. Broadcast nationally on Comedy Central, Dr. Inferno Jr. fought in the BattleBox with “POWERED BY ADGRAFIX.COM” emblazoned across its front wedge—while Maureen Salvatore cheered from the arena stands. That same year, Web Hosting Magazine featured the Adgrafix technical facility in Sudbury, MA in their “Men of Adgrafix” profile, capturing Gene Salvatore’s quote: “If I Could Build the World From Scratch: it would be wired with a T3 connection to every house.”
Complementary Strengths
Gene architects systems and infrastructure. Maureen operationalizes, governs financial reality, and leads partner strategy. Both strategize together.
Symmetric 35-Year Partnership
Married 31 years and business partners for 35. Every major strategic decision since 1997 has been made side-by-side—surviving the Dot-Com Bust, 2008 Crash, and pandemic.
Frontier Engineering — Never Stuck in Comfort
We never stay locked in an OS, database, or tool out of comfort. From Sun SPARC UNIX and Windows NT/ColdFusion/MS SQL in 1998 to physical data centers and today’s shift from CentOS to Ubuntu LTS & PostgreSQL 16, we evolve continuously on verified foundations.
Operational Discipline, DNS History & Domain Heritage
99.982% uptime across 18+ years at GreenTree paired with 25-year exact-match domain holds (NarragansettBay.com, PointsTracker.com, SalvatoreSystems.com).
We Have the Receipts — Public Archives & Actual Billing Records
Anyone can claim "decades of experience." GreenTree backs up every architecture claim with forensic receipts: public 1997–2026 Archive.org Wayback Machine captures, Server Fault hypervisor citations, and actual 30-year operational, merchant, and enterprise billing records (from Raritan and OnProcess dedicated leases to 11 years of Cartridge World corporate & franchisee store ledgers).
Online Imaging (onlineimaging.com), RILiving.com (RI State MLS), Allaire ColdFusion + MS SQL Server & Elite Brokerages
Why our foundational studio was named "Online Imaging"—and how our 1997 contract and Jan 25, 1998 launch evolved from Sun SPARC UNIX + Access (.mdb) to Windows NT 4.0 + Allaire ColdFusion + Microsoft SQL Server powering all 39 RI municipalities.
It started with Maureen’s Christmas gift to Gene: a Packard Bell computer and a copy of Microsoft FrontPage, operating under our foundational company Online Imaging (onlineimaging.com, officially opened in 1996 in Warwick, Rhode Island). Why the name "Online Imaging"? In 1996–1998, almost nobody owned a color flatbed scanner or a digital camera—not real estate offices and not local businesses—but we did (running Hewlett-Packard scanning gear and early digital cameras, as documented on our archived onlineimaging.com/about_us.htm page). Real estate agents didn’t mail their listing photos—they drove over in person and dropped off manila folders and envelopes stuffed with stacks of printed photographs right into our mailbox, so we would come home and find them waiting for us. We scanned every photograph, resized and compressed them, and even back then gave them descriptive, search-friendly filenames before publishing them to the web ("imaging" physical photos to put them "online"). We were also among the very first customers in Rhode Island to get Cox Cable high-speed internet installed—which took days and a small army of Cox trucks and technicians to provision—while peers on Adgrafix, ICQ, and early internet boards reminded us to keep every page and photo optimized for visitors still on 28.8K/56K dial-up.
In 1997, finding a home for sale or rent meant scanning two-line text ads in the Sunday newspaper or picking up stapled photo magazines at the supermarket checkout aisle that were already weeks out of date. Maureen Salvatore secured a meeting with the Rhode Island State-Wide Multiple Listing Service (RI State MLS). She pitched them on replacing print lag with a live, searchable database-driven website complete with property photography, listing details, and multi-criteria filtering. She won the contract in 1997, and together Maureen and Gene secured RILiving.com (captured in the Wayback Machine on January 25, 1998, with the sponsor matrix featuring "Online Imaging - Web Site Development" and page footer explicitly stamped "Copyright © 1997 Realtor Communications Services, Inc. ... Created In Association with Online Imaging"). As Bob Martin (President of REALTOR® Communication Services / RI State MLS) and Michael Letendre (IT Director) were quoted on onlineimaging.com/happy_clients.htm after the site won two citations: the platform went "... way beyond what we thought possible after only such a short period of time."
Phase 1 launched with Microsoft FrontPage and a Microsoft Access (.mdb) database on an Adgrafix Sun SPARC UNIX server running FrontPage Server Extensions. When concurrent traffic across 39 municipalities hit UNIX file-locking limits, Gene spun up a dedicated Windows NT 4.0 Server running IIS 4.0, migrated the data to Microsoft SQL Server (6.5/7.0) via System ODBC DSN, and deployed Allaire ColdFusion (<cfquery> / <cfoutput>)—sparking a statewide wave of premier brokerages and regional businesses hiring Online Imaging, including Lila Delman Real Estate (our largest enterprise account), Phipps Realty, Century 21 Boulevard, Boomer McLoud (boomersma.com), and RBI Custom Timepieces. Looking ahead to 2027, this foundational milestone marks 30 years of continuous web engineering and 20 years of GreenTree Hosting, LLC.

Adgrafix.com (Allegiance Telecom) & Hosting.com: Sun Ultra Solaris 2.6, Leading the Windows NT Program & VP of Business Development
Helping grow one of the internet’s earliest commercial web hosting companies (Sudbury, Massachusetts) from Sun Ultra RISC / Solaris 2.6 Unix servers into a Windows NT + ColdFusion + MS SQL powerhouse acquired by Allegiance Telecom, Inc.
Building database-driven websites in the late 1990s connected directly with our work at Adgrafix Corporation—one of the internet’s earliest commercial web hosting pioneers (operating its own fault-tolerant dual-T3 Sun Ultra RISC / Solaris 2.6 Unix facility in Sudbury, Massachusetts and pioneering distributed remote work using ICQ).
As preserved in the 2001 Adgrafix / Allegiance Telecom Wayback Machine archives, Gene came to Adgrafix as an Account Executive in 1996, joined the Senior Account Executive Team in August 1999, served as a Systems Administrator, led the development of the Windows NT Program for Adgrafix, and rose to Vice President of Business Development on the Executive Team alongside President & Founder Robert S. Bennett.
Maureen Salvatore served as Customer Care Manager and directed an international reseller and affiliate channel spanning tens of thousands of partners—helping scale Adgrafix through its acquisition by Allegiance Telecom, Inc. and subsequent senior leadership roles with Hosting.com.

Vertical Market Hosting (Archieboy Holdings), Boston Datacenters Merger & Sale to TierPoint
Building 8 physical racks of servers, merging with Boston Datacenters, turning the operation profitable, and completing its 2007 sale to TierPoint.
Following the Adgrafix era, Gene and Maureen co-led their next hosting venture focused on vertical market hosting (Archieboy Holdings alongside Bo Bennett and longtime hosting partners—named in honor of Archie, Bo’s yellow English Labrador Retriever who went everywhere with Bo, even riding shotgun for a spin or two in the silver Ferrari 360 Modena that Bo briefly owned in 2001), building the operation to 8 full racks of physical servers.
When they moved from Warwick, Rhode Island to Sudbury, Massachusetts in the early 2000s, they lived in three different houses across Sudbury—each with its own connectivity chapter: at House 1 (where the road had no cable broadband), they had satellite internet installed on the roof; at House 2, Gene had a dedicated commercial T1 line wired in over POTS (copper phone lines) directly into their residential house for an always-on pipe; and at House 3, they finally got cable internet.
Those 8 racks of production infrastructure served as the foundation to merge with Boston Datacenters. Operating physical IBM and Dell server racks, Cisco and Juniper routing cores, and VMware clusters across Boston and Connecticut, they helped turn the combined data center operation profitable prior to its sale to TierPoint in 2007.
- Built 8 racks of production servers that merged with Boston Datacenters
- Across three homes in Sudbury, Massachusetts: roof satellite internet at House 1, a dedicated commercial T1 line over POTS wired into House 2, and cable internet at House 3
- Hands-on physical data center engineering (IBM/Dell racks, Cisco, Juniper, VMware, redundant BGP & power) ahead of the 2007 TierPoint transition
GreenTree Hosting Founded via Strategic Carve-Out & What We Learned From Our Own 2010–2018 WordPress Site
Carving out the multi-tenant hosting fleet in March 2007, launching our 45+ page WordPress platform in 2010, and living the exact "cobbler’s children" lesson when that WordPress site crashed in late 2018.
As part of the March 1, 2007 transition following the November 2006 sale of Boston Datacenters (500 Rutherford Ave, Charlestown, MA) to Hosted Solutions (later TierPoint), Gene and Maureen arranged a strategic carve-out of the multi-tenant hosting servers and custom control panel infrastructure (`AppiesHost.com`, `SupportFreaks.com`, and 30+ niche brands) to launch GreenTree Hosting, LLC. Why the name "GreenTree"? Because coming out of operating 8 physical racks of power-hungry 1U servers, our core engineering mission was consolidating underutilized physical machines onto VMware ESXi and vSphere hypervisors to slash data center electricity and cooling waste—earning organic citations on Server Fault as early as October 2010 as one of the only independent providers offering native VMware ESXi virtual machines (`/hosting/vmware-virtual-machines/`).
Throughout this era, GreenTree engineered custom bare-metal dedicated servers for mission-critical enterprise clients. From 2011 through early 2014, we hosted a dedicated Dell PowerEdge R510 (dual array, RAID 10 with dedicated hot spares) for Raritan Technologies, Inc., hosting Windows and Linux virtual appliances that allowed prospective enterprise clients worldwide to securely RDP or VNC into live product demonstrations—leveraging ESXi snapshots to instantly revert to a pristine state after each demo right through Raritan’s restructuring, the Sunbird Software spin-off, and Legrand acquisition. From 2013 through early 2016, GreenTree powered the entire 24/7 global email infrastructure for OnProcess Technology (Ashland, MA), including their round-the-clock international call centers across India, running on a dedicated Dell PowerEdge R410 with maxed CPU, maxed RAM, and 4 large enterprise drives locked in strict RAID 10. Our philosophy was uncompromising: we never skimped on RAID. While others gambled on RAID 5 single-point-of-failure or suffered brutal RAID 6 write penalties, GreenTree enforced RAID 10 for maximum transactional IOPS and rapid automated rebuild resilience.
Our infrastructure resilience was repeatedly proven under extreme real-world stress. In February 2010, through a white-label Appies reseller partner white-labeling our hosting platform, GreenTree hosted the official website for Captain Phil Harris of Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch (F/V Cornelia Marie). When Captain Phil tragically passed away on February 9, 2010, the website was immediately struck by an extraordinary, unannounced global media surge as millions of mourning fans, television networks, and international news outlets descended simultaneously. While celebrity and media traffic spikes of that magnitude routinely crushed commodity hosts, GreenTree’s edge network absorbed the traffic spike effortlessly—we never went down.
From 2012 through the end of 2023, GreenTree served as the official enterprise email supplier for Cartridge World North America (CWNA), powering corporate headquarters and hundreds of franchisee stores across North America on SmarterMail Enterprise. We designed an innovative multi-spoke federated licensing model: CWNA corporate covered the baseline SmarterMail Enterprise account for every franchise location, and individual store owners could seamlessly purchase additional accounts directly from GreenTree at the pre-negotiated corporate volume tier. Furthermore, rather than forcing franchisees into generic, detached corporate addresses like store1234@cartridgeworldusa.com, GreenTree provisioned custom vanity franchise domains (such as gene@cwsouthbury.com), giving store owners an elevated local commercial presence with full SPF, DKIM, and DMARC isolation. Through multiple ownership and private equity transitions at CWNA, GreenTree maintained unwavering stability—and when corporate eventually shifted platforms after 11 years, numerous CWNA franchisees chose to stay directly on GreenTree, remaining active clients to this day with their custom CW-branded domains.
Crucially, we have the receipts to prove every claim: whether it is the immutable public historical record on Archive.org (from 1997 Online Imaging and 2000 Adgrafix to our 2010 VMware ESXi pages), public technical citations on Server Fault, or our actual three-decade repository of enterprise billing records, merchant ledgers, and dedicated server contracts. In an industry flooded with unverifiable agency storytelling, GreenTree’s 29-year engineering history is forensic, documented, and completely verifiable.
As preserved in the Wayback Machine from May 2010 through December 2018 (e.g., capture 20160117055554), we redesigned greentreehosting.com into a comprehensive 45+ page WordPress website covering VMware ESXi & vSphere Hosting, Green Data Center Power & Energy (`/about/corporate-profile/power-and-energy/`), SmarterMail Enterprise, Dedicated Servers, DataCenters (Boston, MA; Waterbury, CT; Hartford, CT; Southbury, CT), Customer Spotlights (including longtime client CF Electrical Service), and starter web design packages at $899.
It was a great website—until late December 2018, when the WordPress installation and its multi-plugin stack (wp-Table-Reloaded, NextGEN, Easy FancyBox, Wordfence, Jetpack) crashed. Because Gene was working full-time directing enterprise healthcare RTLS deployments while keeping all client Linux, VMware, DNS, and SmarterMail servers running, he didn’t have 200 spare hours to rebuild a giant 45-page WordPress site by hand—so for years greentreehosting.com sat on a simple static portal page (capture 20190102233547). Living that exact pain firsthand is why we moved off PHP/WordPress plugins to our compiled React 19 + TypeScript architecture, restored 100% of our historic 2007–2018 WordPress and HTML backlinks via HTTP 301 redirects (read our full history in Why We Are Called GreenTree: From 2007 VMware ESXi Pioneer to High-Availability Linux Cloud at /library/from-vmware-esxi-pioneer-to-high-availability-linux-cloud), and built our $999 done-for-you Small Business Modernization for busy owners in the same boat.

Enterprise Healthcare RTLS Leadership, Salvatore Systems & 17+ Live Platforms
Combining 12+ years as Director of Support & Deployment Engineering for enterprise RTLS with custom web application engineering, deep DNS architecture, and decades of domain heritage going back to early Network Solutions NIC handles.
Parallel to running GreenTree Hosting, Gene spent 12+ years ascending to Director of Support & Deployment Engineering for enterprise Real-Time Location Services (RTLS) platforms (Sonitor)—designing, deploying, and validating mission-critical indoor positioning systems across hospital, healthcare, and hospitality environments.
After moving to Southbury, Connecticut in 2007, we ran on 50/8 Mbps cable internet until commercial fiber finally reached our road two years ago—where we had fiber trenched about 800 feet across the yard right into our headquarters for symmetric Gigabit fiber (1,000/1,000 Mbps). Today, that same refusal to accept slow, fragile connectivity drives our entire operation and our multi-node High-Availability NVMe Linux cloud cluster (running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, isolated Docker containers, warm-standby PostgreSQL 16 replication with automated failback row merge, S3-compatible SeaweedFS object storage, and our multi-node authoritative DNS network).
Today, nearly three decades of infrastructure discipline, DNS engineering, and long-term domain stewardship power Salvatore Systems and the GreenTree engineering team: building custom interactive web applications for commercial clients alongside 17+ live owned platforms including GeneTravels.com, GreenTree Motorsports, InfieldLife.com, PointsTracker.com, CompliancePro.app, LogBot.app, DNSBot.app, HijackRadar.com, and AOS Constitutional AI Governance.
- Dual-stack experience: 18+ years of GreenTree datacenter uptime + 12+ years directing enterprise healthcare RTLS deployments
- 17+ live SaaS, security, AI governance, and media platforms backed by decades of DNS, registrar, and domain architecture
- Custom client web applications engineered with interactive calculators, client portals, and full Git code ownership
